Good news and bad news

Good news.

We took Sammi back to the vet this weekend to see how her heart medicine is working. It's doing it's job! Her heart murmur hasn't progressed any further, and the vet said she's doing well. Yay! I even got to listen to her heart with the stethoscope. Now I know what the heart murmur sounds like.

Bad news.

My parents had to put their dog down today. She's a german shepherd named Baby. I know my dad is probably taking it extremely hard, as she has been his side-kick for many years. As is typical with german shepherds, she has had hip dysplasia and her back legs haven't been working well. It's gotten bad lately. I was down in Austin last week visiting my folks, and it was so sad to see her struggle to get around. Other than her hips, she's seemed to be in good health. But today mom said she thinks Baby's kidneys are failing as well. Say a prayer for my parents if you can spare one. I'm sure my dad is feeling lost without her. She was like one if his kids. I took this picture of her this past week.

The SAME thing happened with my parents german shepard. Her hips were always bad and then one day she just could get up. I was SO sad because other than her hips, she was fine but we had to put her down anyway... So sorry to hear of their loss - I know how hard it can be...

Happy to hear things are better with your dog!

So sad to her about your parents' doggie though. My parents just put our family dog down in September. It was just awful. I think we are all still a little heartbroken over it. Always trying to remember the good times though :)

Awww, that's so sad! I have a huge dog, part GS, and although we were told he did not have bad hips when he was younger, he's now 5 1/2 years old and most vets would say he probably won't go beyond 7 due to his size. It's terrible when it's something like hips, because their minds are well and they want to play. Mine still acts like a puppy. I'd hate to have to put him down, but I know it's expensive to try to "fix" and by "fixing" it just postpones it, if anything. I feel for your parents.

However, congrats on your good news! Glad the heart problems aren't getting worse!

I'll be praying for them. My brother and sister in law have a german shepherd. They are beautiful dogs.
