I need your opinion

I'm out of ideas, so I need yours. :)

I have this glass candy dish (?) on a pedestal that my mother recently gave me. It was my grandmother's. She received it as a wedding present a gazillion years ago. At some point over the years, she broke the lid. I've been wanting this piece for a very long time, and finally wore my mother down and was able to get her to give it to me. ;) She doesn't part with family heirlooms often. So I'm happy to have this (though I still have my eye on my great-grandmother's cookie jar..my mom said I can have it once she dies...*rolling my eyes* ha).

So here's the problem...I don't know what to do with it anymore. During the Christmas season, it looks fantastic with colored glass balls. At one point, mom filled it with colored water and floating candles and used it as a centerpiece. But I'm stumped for ideas on what to put in it for every day use. It's very special to me, and I don't want to pack it up and pull it out only on special occasions. I want to display it every day. I currently have it on my kitchen table, though I had to put it on a wood table to take the pictures so you could see it. Everything I've tried with it just doesn't seem to work for me...seems too mundane, not quite special enough. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

And a little change with my garage sale candlesticks. I decided to use only green on them, and I wrapped the beaded garland around the candles instead of having it dangle. Hubs said he likes this better. And for him to say anything at all is highly unusual. He really doesn't care what I do with the decor. ha

Spent the morning walking around the square with hubs and Cissy, drinking coffee/tea from our favorite little coffee shop. Stopped by only one garage sale and found a pretty necklace and matching earrings ($2). Been home for about an hour. And it's only 10:30am. I've got a few errands to run, then some jewelry pieces I want to make. I'm hoping to squeeze a nap in somewhere. Also hoping to hit some g-sales tomorrow. I hope everyone has a blessed weekend!

I have a trifle bowl (I think that's what it is) that I adore. I have it filled with three small candles (a bit bigger than votives) and some river rocks. I like the look of that. Very simple. Maybe pine cones? I guess that could be more of a fall thing.
Can you tell I'm inspired by nature?

I guess b/c I have tons of stuff and a lot in cabinets and side boards. I have one similar to that. Made by Fostoria. (I think I spelled that right.) Mine was my grandparents and it has lions heads in all the corners. I used to have a matching honey/butter dish, but I used it all the time (for candy) and it got broken.

During the holidays I take this one out to serve food in during the holidays. Looks really pretty with cranberry salad in it.

What about candles and glass beads/marbles in seasonal colors? Or colors that match your decor.

Love the tables! Love the candlesticks! AND that trifle dish!! Usually little found treasures from my kids would end up in there. How about some beach rocks/shells and maybe even stand a picture up in there, using the rocks/shells to hold it in place. Does that make sense;)

I don't know anything about flowers from bulbs, but I was thinking that would look really pretty with some pebbles and flowers growing from bulbs.

The candlesticks look great!

That candy dish is beautiful! What about some faux green pears (the small ones) or having a faux floral arrangement made for it?

I could see pretty beach glass in it. The soft cut glass in pretty blues and greens would be so pretty in your bowl. What a gift it is! How special. I think even some pretty fruit...bright red apples or tiny apricots would be pretty as well. Hope you too have a great weekend!

Sounds like a great weekend with the coffee/garage sales and a nap! As for the bowl, I agree, it's beautiful and should be used every day! How about some pretty green pears (real or fake) in there? I am not good at using my pretty stuff either, so I'll be happy to see what people suggest!

What a special piece indeed! Maybe a little nest or some shells for the summer. With summer on my mind maybe even some lemondrops. Yum! That little dish would look sweet with just about anything you put in it. Love your candle holders too! Thanks for the advice on leaving the backs out of my chairs. I did think about it but wasnt sure it would look good. I will try to put them back in but if I cant you kow what route I will be taking...just between me and you hehe~

Thanks for stopping by worldgazing. I LOVE your re-painted candle holders and the beads. I'm not very creative but I liked the "fruits" ideas for your candy dish!

I love the candlesticks with just the green.
I was going to suggest some painted rocks.

I love that you want to use it for everyday and not special occasions. How many things like that do I have stuffed in a closet? You have inspired me to bring them out, because when else am I going to get joy from seeing them? As for ideas of what to put in it, I would look through some sites, like http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/party_favors_decorations.html, and see what some decoration ideas are. You could always use it for fruit if you run out of crafty ideas.

You could use river rocks and candles, or a bunch of wine corks... maybe just some citrus in the summer.... candy... coffee beans for a nice scent. A moss ball perhaps?

The possibilities are endless, and I love dreaming up possibilities.
