Guess what I got for Christmas

A white hair.

Yes, my first one. If it were gray, I could say that it's a sign of wisdom and maturity (yeah, right).

But it's not even gray, it's pure white.

I noticed this because I was in the bathroom last night looking at my roots, contemplating my natural color (which hasn't existed since I was 15). I've been letting my hair got a little longer than I normally would since I'm not at work. I was looking at my awful roots when I noticed a shiny strand starting at the very top of my head. At first I thought that maybe it's blonde. Really blonde. But since I have 2 inches of roots, that wouldn't be possible.

I plucked that sucker out and called my mother, hoping for some kind of reassurance. Instead I received boisterous laughter on the phone. She said "It's a right of passage."

Look here lady, I'm not ready to pass through that door yet!

When you see one you will see more, I hate to say it.
I've been coloring my gray for years and no one knows I have gray hair.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas otherwise.

I haven't passed thru that door yet and I am trying to avoid it like the plague. So, what do I do? See my hairdresser every two months! No shame in my game.;) Hope you are doing okay. I think of you often.

Well you could have been like me and found your first one at age 25! Ugh! It won't be so bad for you though. We all learn to deal with it one way or another.

Hm, right of passage yes. I can still understand the concern though. Keep on coloring away I suppose :)

Wow, Santa really came through for you this year! I stopped dying my hair, too, and I'm growing it out, but I've only experienced the grays so far. I'm sure my time will come soon... -the DCGF

Oh, you crack me up! You know, when my husband and I were engaged, he got a bit of white hair in one spot, and didn't get anymore for quite a while, just as a bit of comfort. You might not see another for a long time! :) I hope you had a great Christmas and that you have a wonderful New Year's! :)

My first gray hair appeared when I was fifteen years old. So, I know all those on my head now are not a sign of old age. They are a sign of wisdom and maturity. ;) That has to be it.

You are not alone! I remembering finding my first gray hair on my 25th birthday! I too had decided to see what my "natural" haircolor would be when I let my hair grow out, because I have coloring since I was a teenager. After that day, I vowed to not stop coloring my hair. Thank goodness for color in a bottle!
