Artsy fartsy

Ever since I was a child, I've enjoying doing art through many mediums...sewing, painting, clay, beading, etc. I took art classes in elementary, junior high and high school, and continued on in college. During the summer, I'd take the bus to the fabric shop and take a sewing class where we made hideous shorts and laundry bags. Even now as an adult, I really enjoy taking classes at bead shops, art stores and online. A couple of years ago I went to an art retreat and had a blast. I think it's good for my soul.

I was thinking the other day how it's been quite a while since I picked up a paint brush, plugged in the sewing machine or beaded a bracelet. And honestly, it makes me sad. I've been blaming my lack of interest on the fact that my craft room is such a disaster that I just can't go in there and create anything. I think that's true to some extent.

I think I enjoyed making arts and crafts more so when I was working, because it was a good creative outlet for me, a stress reliever after a long day at work. Now that I'm on "temporary hiatus" from the corporate world, I haven't really done a thing. It's kind of funny how you manage to get a heck of a lot more done when you are busy than when you aren't. That's true for me lately.

I've also noticed I go through stages. I'll be in an art making frenzy for a month or so, then won't touch it again for 6 months. I need to change that.

So in an attempt to motivate myself, I pulled out a few collages I made the last few years. I think when I feel the texture of the papers and see the bright colors of the paint, it starts to renew my love again. And I get excited. I thought I'd share a few of my funky, whimsical pieces with you. I think seeing them up on my blog will help to spark my interest again, if that makes sense. Because really, I have all the time in the world now, and there's no excuse not to use this time to do something productive, right? :)

Edited to add this little ray of sunshine from one of my posts from last fall: the proof is in the pudding as they say! ;)

I love it all and I think you are very talented.
I can see some of the teachers you had in there too, (Claudine Hellmuth?:)
I LOVE the two panels with the houses on them. I would love to hang those in my home.
Keep painting and creating, it may take you down a path perhaps you weren't expecting!:)
Thanks for sharing

These are great! Definitely get back into it- when sitting around with little to do, it seems like we can become such "blobs." Just because we aren't busy doesn't mean we don't get stressed or depressed and being creative is such a great release! Also, you are lucky to have a whole craft room- even if it is a disaster!

I love it all! see, I told you i'd get around to visiting with people! and I hate to tell you this, but my craft room is just as messy as yours and I'm in there every chance i get making stuff anyway! One of these days I'm going to have to get organized...but what I guess I'm trying to say is if I waited for that day, I'd never create anything! my sister lives in Austin, and leads worship with an amazing group of people at Austin Stone! She's had a lot of amazing opportunities lately. all God's doing of course!

Very nice work!! I do the same thing...will go crazy with beading or painting or whatever for a month or two then not touch it for a while. Get it out, then think "Why don't I do this more?!?"

Those look great! Despite my years of art classes and awards, I could never create anything like that. I have a strange sense of organized creativity - if that makes any sense. Those are the kinds of things I wish I could do, but always fail miserably at.
Keep it up!
And regarding the doing nothing when you have nothing to do? I totally feel you. After I quit my job, it was followed by the period I refer to as, "the three months I spent sitting on the couch." That is not an exaggeration.

What an artist you are! You ought to sell those on etsy. I like your unique style!

I fully understand about being more productive when you're busy. I complain when I'm too busy, but when life is slow I get so very little accomplished!

Sounds like you need to take a day to get your craft room in order and get back to your creative outlet.

Your gallery of collage art is fantastic, thanks for sharing that. Thanks for visiting my blog today, I owe you a reply email, I almost forgot!!

You are so talented! I know what you mean about how you get more done when you are busy than when you are not. Totally my problem too!

Your work is great - definitely a hobby you should pick back up! It's funny because I just wrote tonight about how important it is to make time for the things we love, but I agree with you that being busy often keeps us focused. Thanks for sharing your art!

I saw your profile name on Centsational girls giveaway and thought it was cute so I stopped by to check your blog out. I, a lover of arts and crafts myself found myself looking through your art and LOVE this work! DO you sell these collages anywhere? They really are unique and so fun. Good job and I hope you keep it up. Your ipod case from the wool sweater is also very cute. Great idea I might do myself. Thank you. Have a great day!
